Simon Says Cycling coaches Two State Champions to Victory!

Derek Bennett wins the Cat 3s

In what is one of the hardest races of the year Derek Bennett of team West Coast Cycling propelled himself in to another great victory by taking the cat 3 State Championship title. Derek’s win was his second of the weekend after his victory in Saturday’s criterium. His WCC team mates played a significant role in his wins by working well as a team and blocking any organized chase.

A former top bmx racer as a kid, Derek has progressed quickly after taking up road racing less than a year ago. It is rewarding to coach someone like Derek who is very disciplined in following my training and advice. This discipline combined with mental toughness and physical talent is what makes him a great cyclist already.

Derek had this to say after his great wins “I owe big part of my back-to-back wins this weekend to my coach Simon Kessler. Without him talking me up this week and helping me find the mental wellness to race after a disappointing week or two of training, I would never have had the discipline to ride the way I did”

Jack Keiser wins the 45+

Jack Keiser confirms himself as the best rider in the 45+ category this year by winning the State Criterium and extending his lead as overall points leader in the Florida Points series.

When I first started working with Jack a year ago this was a different story. Jack was overcoming an injury and had not raced in a few years. He started out being able to achieve 270 Watts for 20 minutes. A year later and with some great structured training in his legs he is now producing over 55W higher!

If Jack was sprinting against the best professional sprinters in the world then he would give them a run for their money. I have coached a lot of great sprinters with power and I have never coached someone who can sprint consistently over 1500 watts like Jack can.
